Maintaining Natural Hair

Question: Do you have any tips on maintaining natural hair, for me and for my children?

Anu Prestonia is the founder and president of Khamit Kinks, a world-reknowned natural hair salon in New York. According to Anu, consistent grooming is an important factor and this is especially true for a child’s hair. “Children have a tendency to be tender headed. Having their hair done on a regular schedule can cut down on trauma and anxiety.” Anu also recommends conditioning and moisterizing between combing sessions to keep the hair manageable.

Moisturizing is what it’s all about for Birgit Okoth of Abantu Beauty Products, a beauty supply company based in Burnaby, British Columbia. “Moisturize both inside and out,” says Birgit. “drink lots of water and moisturize your scalp and hair on a daily basis with a good lotion like Organic Root Stimulator olive oil lotion.”

The web is also full of great articles, pictures and advice for the natural hair enthusiast. Several columnists on the popular nappturality.com recommend the use of herbs for all kinds of hair issues: olive oil for dry hair, honey with almond oil to smooth frizz, nutmeg and milk to promote growth, sage water for thicker roots and so much more.

Thoughts: Babymama Drama and Babydaddy Blues

"My question to you is: Have you been involved in the family court system for child-support or custody issues? If yes, why did it come to that? If no, is it something that you would do if you had to?"
